After hitting another vehicle and hospitalizing its driver, a drunk driver got away with minor injuries on Saturday. The other driver is hospitalized and in serious condition due to a DUI in Florida.

Florida Highway Patrol reports that Abel S. Mixtega, age 25, from Chiefland, Florida was charged with Florida DUI, as well as charges from leaving the scene of an accident with injuries, and not having a driver's license. Mixtega and his passenger, Gorge Alonzo, received minor injuries and were not hospitalized.

There were three people inside the Chrysler van involved in the crash. They were residents of Summerfield, Florida. Florida Highway Patrol says Sally Herrington was taken to Shands hospital at the University of Florida, in serious condition. Her front passenger, Chris Franzen and his daughter Danielle Franzen received minor injuries and were not hospitalized.

The crash occurred at 3:10 pm. Florida Highway Patrol trooper J.T. Clark was dispatched to the accident, which occurred on Alternate U.S. 27 where it intersects with Northeast 145th Avenue, between Bronson and Williston.

It was determined that Mixtega was driving east and weaving in and out of lanes. Herrington was eastbound at the same time, in the outside travel lane. According to reports, Mixtega drove into the outside lane and hit the driver's side of the other vehicle, which caused it to overturn as it crossed over Northeast 145th Avenue.
After attempting to flee the scene of the crash, Mixtega was arrested for DUI and booked into the Levy County Jail in Bronson.
